Subject: melanie, of course

to: David and, hopefully, Melanie

I expected to find nothing. This is not meant as an insult but I just expected to find nothing at all and was beyond being surprised. I will keep this visit short and visit again soon. I have adored Melanie since I was 6 years old. My older brothers and sister used to play the first three records and it was my introduction to a supremely lovely female voice. I had loved to sing but had never found anything to sing along comfortably with. In my opinion, I was singing with her. To this day, I still get chills from certain songs and listening to Melanie reinforces my desire and need to sing and reinforces my faith that good spirits exist in this world. I know this sounds corny but it is just so nice to express these views to like-minded individuals.

My dream is to one day finally see Melanie perform. If anyone knows her touring schedule, I would appreciate the information though I doubt she will be coming to Montreal any time soon.

If anyone has any additional pertinent info, or would just like to swap Melanie enthusiasms, I can be e-mailed at: ammark@vax2.concordia.ca OR Timmy334@aol.com thanks for giving me this opportunity Anne Marie Marko

P.S. Although I sing and write original songs, I occasionally do covers and have always wanted to do Little Bit of Me...if anyone can help me with tablature or lyrics, please do. Thanks and Melanie, if you are out there, I love you and owe you a lot...you made a little girl really feel less alone.

Subject: Photograpgh

Greetings from the US!

Word has it that the next title to be issued on CD will be the Atlantic released, "PHOTOGRAPH." This would truly be a blessing! More news to follow.

What did you think of the Wooded Hills released version, singular CD, "Four Sides of Melanie"? In comparison to Canada's 2 CD complete 23 track set, I felt the 21 tracked single disc had better artwork and better sound mix.

I recently obtained, finally a UK vinyl, All the Right Noises soundtrack in M/VG+ condition. I'm still desperate to obtain the "Seventh Wave" and "Melanie" - 1987 CD.

Dave

This is a great site. I have been a huge fan of Melanie ever since my sister bought one of her records (photograph) in the 70's. Later I saw her in concert at the town hall in Sydney, Australia. I have most of Melanie's records from the 60's and 70's but nothing since. I have been trying for ages to find out more info on what she is up to now and this page is a great start. please keep me informed.

thanks

hi David, you mentioned that Melanie might be performing in Detroit at some time. That is the closest location to us that I've seen. My daughter and I have a goal to someday see her together. My daughter, Marnie has just put out her first tape, it was reviewed in the local paper and she was compared to a "young Melanie" You can imagine my pride. Also, she was asked to sing a song at the memorial to the Montreal Massacre last December and Marnie chose to sing " Beautiful People". Such a fitting song in a world of violence...anyway, David, really appreciate your updates on Melanie and if there is a concert near Detroit or the Toronto, Ontario area, please, please, let us know... thanks,

Karen

Thanks for the update. Have all my vacations time planned for this year though so a trip to Fla. isn't possible. If only she'd play somewhere in the midwest......

Keep up the good work,

Dave, thanks again for info. I enjoyed the new article on your web page. He seemed to be right on except I don't really feel Melanie has a problem singing the old songs; she knows that's part of the whole concert thing, but truly does regret the success of ..new key as opposed to something more heartfelt, other than that, it was the best article I've read. I feel something big is going to happen (but then she won't be all ours) ha! but I would miss the small intimate concerts. I hate the sold out auditorium type stuff. Oh well. I'm wondering about the dates of the Jacksonville con. If it's mem. weekend that's the 31st but you mention a date in April are these two different shows?? It's five hours away but I'll be going.

Hello,

I just want to say "thank you ", for the Melanie info you keep sending me. I just got my copy of the new Melanie CD, I think some of the cuts on disk 2 are really good. Melanie will always be my number one favorite singer. I met her many times, and kissed her too :).

Take care of yourself

Dear David

Thanks for keeping me in touch with all the Melanie events. Unfortunately having been born in 1969 I am afraid to say that I have never seen her play live. My hubby and I both adore her though so hopefully one day!

I appreciate the time and effort you spend on keeping us all informed. Keep up the good work.

Many thanks

RE: European 2CD

Hi All,

Cover pics of the new European 2CD are now on-line at:

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/David_Boldinger/mdhitnew.htm

CD1 is mostly from Silver Anniversary plus 'well-worth-it' extras

CD2 is live recording of recent (1994) and classic favourites.

I finally received my copy a clear whole month after ordering it from W.H. Smith.. I was astonished at the cheap price 8.99 UKP. I expected to pay double. I get the impression this is another 'non-authorised' release of recordings from a previous label.

To: Dan Kagan,

RE: silver anniversary

>Did you order your silver anniversary album direct from the Melanie Fan Club?<

No, but many others were stung! Peter said that his supplier went bust with the loot! ?

> Any hints.<

see: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/David_Boldinger/Current.htm

> Are they ever going to be filled? <

I very much doubt it. They did offer to send 'Unchained' instead, but they have all gone I think. I have yet to hear anything 'good' about the Fan Club -- beware!

Here's a question for you.

Did you order your silver anniversary album direct from the Melanie Fan Club?

I did three years ago and have never gotten it and no one is responding to my latest letters? Any hints.

Are they ever going to be filled?

Thanks

Subject: Melanie concert

Hi Dave

A Jacksonville Fl show is April 12 at 8pm. Richie Havens is the headline , Melanie is the special guest. Tickets are available in the US via Ticketmaster.

Did she do a show 2 Feb in West Virginia ?

Love your web pages. I have been a diehard fan since 1969! and now my children are too. I saw her and got a chance to speak with her and Peter this summer at the Turning Point show and at the Ramapo Mt festival ,both were great shows!

Take care

Subject: Melanie concert

Hi David,

Just wanted to let you know the May's Chapel concert Friday night was great. Melanie's concerts just get better and better! She performed with Jeordie and a new guitarist named Frank. I didn't catch his last name, but she said he's from Europe, and it was his first trip to the States. Melanie performed for about a hour, took a short break, then was on for another hour and a half. At the start of the second set, the audience sang "Happy Birthday" to her as she walked onto the stage. She said she'd be returning to May's Chapel next year at about this time, and that it feels comfortable to return to a familiar place. She did a few new songs; "Leftover Emotions", something like "Blue As Azure", a funny song about a woman trying to keep herself beautiful, sung to the tune of "Window Pane", and her imitation of Joan Baez - and not a bad one, either!

Subject: Re: Concert Info

Hi,

Thanks for the info on Melanie. My daughter is 21years old now. She wasn't thought at the time of the concert. It was in about 73 or 74. Melanie was in concert with Harry Chapin. It was great! People walked around carrying incense and some people threw a shoe up on the stage with a wad of bubble-gum stuck to it. It scared her but then she realised there was a note attached. It was cool! I have all her albums. My daughter was going to name her child after Melanie. Oh well, I could go on and on but that's it for now. I was a teenager in those days. But Melanie's youth lives on with many of us.

Thanks again for the info. Happy Birthday Melanie!

Holly

We have moved away from Florida and Ron is no longer playing with Melanie and I'm not booking her anymore so I don't talk to her or her husband Peter on a regular basis like I used to. You might want to scratch my name off your list

Subject: Now, It really is a Happy Birthday

Hi again,

The site is back in action at last. All I wanted to do was say Happy Birthday, on Melanie's Birthday. To make up, I have officially extended Melanie's Birthday to include tomorrow too!

So, how young is the ageless daughter? 1997 - 1947 = 21 ! :)

H E L P .... I need any info of what Melanie was doing in the late 70s and eighties and early 90s. If you have saved any articles, there's many other people who would like to share. Any article, good or bad, just so I can fill the gaps in the 'chronology' section. Write it yourself, go to any concerts in this period? Taped a radio interview?

Anything - p l e a s e....

Subject: It's Happy Birthday

Hi All,

It's Feb 3rd, H a p p y B i r t h d a y Melanie....

Upcoming;

a lot of concerts, and radio shows. The show in Virginia was sold out. Melanie has concerts scheduled in Detroit, and several other places along the East Coast. She will headline the worlds largest Folk festival Memorial day weekend in Jacksonville, Florida.

Further details will follow when received.

CompuServe's Web Server is creating a lot of problems at present. I can not update the site. It thinks some pages are being updated and will not allow access.

They assure me, they are fixing, but I don't know how long it will be before its running again, please be patient.

My apologies.

Subject: Melanie at Mays Chapel

Hi Dave

It's 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning and we just returned from Melanie's concert at Mays Chapel. Including a short intermission, the show ran just over 3 hours. The longest Melanie concert I've ever been to. Her stamina is incredible. As usual, her powerful playing broke more than a few guitar strings. Melanie performed a few songs I've never heard before and one was a first time ever performance. Her new guitarist from Scotland, Frank is incredible. The magic is there more than ever! I am so in awe of her...well, I could go on and on but I won't.

I talked with a couple who took a bus from NYC to the show (a 4 hour ride) after seeing it mentioned on your web-site. Thanks for maintaining it Dave.

Brett
