MELANIE - 1976
The following
is a report on public relations, publicity and promotional activity for the two
Sydney concerts for Melanie's first Australian Tour.
As well as
the above this organisation also arranged: Booking of venue, hire of sound equipment,
placing of advertising plus the setting up of a Radio deal with the promoters.
RADIO: DEAL
This organisation set up with Digamae Pty. Ltd. , a promotional radio
deal on radio 2SM, Sydney's No 1 rating radio station and liased with copy changes
and promotional competitions.
SOUND EQUIPMENT
This-organisation arranged the hire of sound equipment for the concerts
through Jands Hire. The equipment was of such a high standard that it was also used
for the concerts in Newcastle and Canberra.
The following press release and handbill were distributed to all press,
TV. and Radio plus all folk clubs etc. in Sydney.
Wide response was gained from the Folk Clubs because of this.
Contact vas made with Melanie's record company - Festival, who assisted
by setting up record displays and distributing posters throughout Sydney.
At a small reception after the Concert, Festival presented to Melanie
a gold map of Australia to commemorate her first tour here.
MEDIA COVERAGE
Extensive media coverage was gained, at a press conference at the Airport
on Melanie's arrival in Australia on Friday 27th February 1976,
On her return to Sydney from Brisbane on Friday March 19th 1976, Melanie
went straight to Radio station 25M for a live interview with George Moore and Robert
Maumill who run Sydney's top rating afternoon show.
Following this interview, and interview was recorded at Radio 2JJ for
playing the following day. This interview was over half an hour in duration.
A segment was recorded that evening for This Day Tonight - a top rating
current affairs TV. Show, for shoving that night.

SUMMARY
This tremendous response to Melanie's 1st Australian Tour must point
to a great following in Australia that can only increase with ensuing tours.
It was a pleasure to be associated with this 1st Tour.
