August 1997
Yasgur's Farm is an historic and meaningful place to people around
the world. The event that took place on August 15, 16, and 17
1969 changed the history of the world and had a tremendous impact
on the music industry. Hardly anyone alive today does not connect
in some way to "Woodstock".
Recreation of the original event is virtually impossible. However,
those of us who were the children of the '60's and want to deliver
the message of our generation to generations to come are now of
the age to take action. Therefor, we plan to produce music and
art, artistic events, and political forums to bring our ideas
and ideals to fruition. We changed the world once and we can do
it again.
Our mission is:
- To create a permanent campground in Sullivan County promoting
ecotourism. Over the past 20 years or so tourism, which had been
our economic mainstay, has been on a steady decline. Consequently,
we have been left with virtually no economic base. Farming, which
is also an integral part of our economy, blends well with our
plan. Our festival site is part of a working farm and we intend
to preserve, not disturb, this industry;
- To provide a welcome place for all people of all nations to
assemble freely and peacefully;
- To donate a portion of Festival proceeds to organisations
and Individuals who support and perpetuate freedom, Education,
Non-violence, Environmental Awareness, Independence and Spiritual
and Artistic Advancement for the benefit of humanity and can demonstrate
a qualified need for such a donation;
- To provide a learning centre for young artists from all venues;
- To build a Bethel Cultural Centre and Museum which would document
the Political, Spiritual and Artistic history leading up to and
since 1969, including recordings, written articles and films of
the original festival;
- To commemorate a miracle.
